Infection Preventionist

This is a Full-time position in Salem, OR posted May 1, 2021.

Works with Infection Prevention leader to manage outbreaks.

Reports to and collaborates with public health authorities for disease control.

Educates and implements measures to decrease hospital-acquired infections.

Establishes mechanisms to track and report epidemiologically significant organisms.

Ensures compliance with all applicable standards and regulations in regards to infection prevention.Core Functions:Implements planned surveillance functions which include but are not limited to:+ Ongoing, systematic review of laboratory findings and infection alerts regularly+ Follow up on surveillance findings with specific case review+ Analyzes case reviews for noted trends+ Regular rounding on clinical units and support areas to identify infection prevention concernsParticipates in the implementation/enforcement of infection prevention/control activities:+ Assists in the evaluation of Infection Prevention practices, e.g.

isolation, hand hygiene, asepsis, sterilization processes, appropriate cleaning, etc.+ Participates in the development and implementation of plans for correction+ Participates in review, revision, and development of Infection Prevention and Control policies and standard work+ Participates in environment of care rounds to identify barriers to effective control and prevention+ Recommends incorporation of current regulations, standards, and evidenced-based practices.+ Applies performance improvement principles to work, e.g., Lean, 4SPS, PDSA, FMEAReports data collected from surveillance activities and rounding in a clear and concise manner:+ Enters surveillance/occurrence data into a variety of databases within assigned time frames+ Assures that data is complete and accurate; validates data with other Infection Preventionists as required+ Participates in entering and extracting infection analysis data and conclusions in the NHSN database+ Participates in the generation of reports for dissemination of information to internal stakeholders, meeting all timelines+ Participates with Infection Prevention leader, manager, and others in the generation of conclusions and improvement plans based on aggregated and trended data.Assists in the management of infection outbreaks, collaborating with medical staff, Employee Health, and others as indicated.+ Assists in managing and implementing controls in the event of an epidemic+ Participates in Emergency Preparedness activities related to infectious disease outbreaks and risks associated with infectious diseaseServes as an educator and consultant:+ Takes every opportunity to immediately educate the patient care team on infection prevention/control practices during rounds+ Participates in the development and implementation of planned education for staff, including orientation and regular updatesServes as a liaison to community health officials:+ Collaborates with public health officials when required for infectious disease control+ Assures accurate reporting of potential and suspected infectious disease as required by regulation+ Assists in the development of educational programs related to infection prevention including providing input into new employee orientation and annual competency educational modules.Performs infection control risk assessments (ICRAs) for construction and remodeling projects:+ Monitors compliance with mitigation of infection risks+ Reports non-compliance to manager and facilities personnelPerforms other duties as assigned and requested by Infection Prevention ManagerBackground/Expertise:+ Graduate of an accredited registered nursing or medical technology program required.+ Bachelor of Science degree required.

Master’s Degree is preferred.+ Unencumbered Oregon license (RN) or certification (MT) as applicable to education.+ Infection Control Certification (CIC) required within two (2) years of hire for all.+ Three (3) years minimum acute care RN or MT.+ Previous experience in infection preventionist preferred.+ Maintains confidentiality.+ Working knowledge of microbiology and epidemiology preferred+ Ability to interact and influence members of the healthcare team at all levels.+ Critical thinking skills.+ Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products including WORD, EXCEL, and PPT+ Ability to manage multiple, concurrent projects and set priorities.We have many excellent opportunities available!
