Experience Host, Sommelier, Event Coordinator

Brooks Winery

This is a Full-time position in Amity, OR posted July 19, 2021.

Brooks Winery is family owned and operated. It began in 1998 and is in the Willamette Valley of Oregon. Brooks is the only winery in the US to be Demeter Certified in Biodynamics, a member of 1% For The Planet and a Certified B Corporation. Brooks thrives on the production of excellent wines and creating the most unique guest experiences. This position is a combination of three primary roles: Experience Coordinator and Host, Floor Sommelier, and Event Coordinator. This position reports to the Managing Director and is part of the leadership team at Brooks. Each scope of responsibilities is further described below.



WSET Level II or CMS Advanced or Equivalent

Five years of experience in the wine or hospitality industry with three years as an educator, in hospitality or event coordination.




Experience Coordinator and Host:

Schedule Elevated Experiences and be the primary host. Elevated experiences currently include the Elevated Tasting Experience and the Garden and Vineyard Walking Experience. Responsibilities include scheduling guests, preparing wines and all arrangements for the experience. Hosting (most of the time) or coordinating the staffing for hosting as needed. 

Work with the Director of Business Development and Education to create additional elevated experiences as needed.



Floor Sommelier:

Enhance the guest experience by engaging guests about wine related topics and the wines they are drinking or that are available to them.

Ensure quality of all bottles served to guests during their visit.

Ensure quality of all bottles opened for all experiences including everyday and events.

Taste with leadership team as needed to develop programs, submissions, menus and other reasons as needed.

Assist with inventory management across all lines of business.

Participate in Virtual Events as needed.

Provide support to the service team on wine related questions/issues.


Event Coordination:

Intake requests for private events, negotiate terms, book and execute.

Oversee Brooks internal events and ensure smooth execution.

Work closely with Executive Chef, Tasting Room Leaders and Director of Marketing to develop menu, graphic design related items, staffing and other items as needed to execute an event.




Strong ability to sell wine and various club memberships to all types of customers.

Utilize the POS system to perform sales transactions and for carry-out and shipping orders.

Provide warm, engaging and professional customer service with the ability to develop rapport with customers.

Conduct roles in a professional, engaging and informative manner.

Actively continue education in wine production, viticulture, and winery history.

Provide exceptional service and go the extra mile for all guests.

Represent the winery at outside functions when necessary.

Behave in a professional and mature manner at all times.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills (via telephone, e-mail, slack app, and face-to-face) are required.

Enthusiastic, passionate and dynamic communication style.

Comfortable speaking in front of crowds.

Self-aware, able to work independently, and driven to make a difference.

Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends.

Must be able to lift 40 lbs. and pass a physical exam and a drug test.

Must be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time.

Must be able to work in a fast paced hospitality environment.

Must be able to work in a team environment.
