Costume Assistant

Oregon Shakespeare Festival

This is a Full-time position in Ashland, OR posted July 19, 2021.

Position Overview All OSF employees are expected to respect diverse ideas, races, genders, sexualities, abilities, cultures, and religions, contribute to working in an anti-racist social justice theater, and value Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA).The Costume Assistant contributes to success of the OSF Costume Department by working in both the Costume Shop and Costume Rentals.

Principal Duties And Responsibilities * Assists Costume Rentals and Costume Project Managers, for example * Fulfills rental orders using Rental Tracker Pro system, packing and shipping out of the Production Building; selecting items that support rental customer’s vision for their production, as requested* Update and maintain costume rental inventory writing costume descriptions and taking photos* Preps and measures fabrics and garments* Assists in organization of purchased and pulled garments and accessories for fittings* Assists in organization of costume dressing and piece lists, shopping and returning items requested by Costume Project Managers and Costume Rentals* Assists in load-outs and strike, as needed * Pick up and deliver supplies between Ashland and Talent campuses; restock inventory* Other duties as assigned by the costume department management staff* Models and supports the mission and values of OSF by * * Demonstrating inclusive behavior and creating an environment of belonging* Maintaining a safe and anti-racist working environment* Recognizing micro-aggressions and interrupting othering behaviors * Adheres to OSF Company Handbook, Safety procedures and Costume Department Guide* Attends all company, department, shop meetings, and as necessary, safety trainings* Clean garments and accessories as necessary and use bacterial sprays on foot wear* Participates in the maintenance, organization, and sanitization of production building spaces and costume shop spaces by cleaning shared spaces and supply bins/ shelves after each use Other Duties And Responsibilities * Pick up and deliver supplies between Ashland and Talent campuses; restock inventory* Other duties as assigned by the costume department management staff Supervision Received Costume Director, Associate Costume Director Supervision Exercised No direct reports Qualifications & Skills Requirements Work Experience 1 or more years of experience in costume building/construction Qualifications/Skills Ability to read, listen, and prioritize tasks.

Experienced in de-escalating conflict using clear communication, both verbal and written.

Ability to rebound from challenges or unexpected changes.

Ability to communicate about body proportions, hair textures and styling, skin tones and genders using respectful and equitable language.

Basic color relationships, textiles, costume styling.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and cloud-based information sharing systems.

Physical Ability Lift and move costumes and equipment weighing up to 30 pounds occasionally, climb stairs occasionally, and sit or stand for long periods of time with or without work modifications.

Other Skills, Ability and/or Knowledge Ability to keep multiple projects moving forward simultaneously, meet deadlines.

Ability to pivot and respond to last minute changes.

Confidentiality required.

Special Hours Requirements Standard work week is Tuesday – Saturday.

Overtime and schedule adjustments will be required from time to time.

Preferred Knowledge of global garment and costume history.
